South Yorkshire Police said that Christian was a "Good Samaritan" who had stopped to help a woman knocked out on the ground.
It is believed she was involved in the altercation shortly before Christian stumbled upon her while out with his family.
Kind-hearted Christian, who was also known as Chris, was out for a post-Christmas walk with his wife and two sons.
He is then said to have left his family and stopped to provide first aid to her, before the car then collided with him, the woman, and a number of others.
